That highstreet Bandshirt

12 March 2016

“Isn’t it annoying how the girly girl over there is wearing that Ramones Shirt, bet she doesn’t even know who that is.” - At least that’s what I was usually thinking when I saw girls wearing “Amplified” Band shirts that used to be a big thing in Germany a few years ago. It annoyed me if brands or big retail stores sold Band Shirts. Band Shirts used to be something you buy at gigs; a sign of dedication to your favourite band, something slightly exclusive. Like the Manson Shirt I bought some time ago, after almost getting ripped apart in the first row and temporary regaining the mind of a 15 year old girl whose aim in life is to touch her favourite musicians arm. And the weirdest “trend” the past few years was shirts with fonts that imitate the logos of famous metal bands. Seriously? Yes you do look kinda badass, but even I see that the “Unif” label on your pants KINDA looks exactly like the carnifex logo, and I don’t even listen to metal. I know, it’s mostly cool logos, but it’s simply a bit embarrassing to copy and alter them. Fashion often picks up subcultures and matching styles; alters them, and it uses it for their own identity. This way; the mainstream shopper (often unknowingly) get’s exposed to a subculture that he usually wouldn’t have considered as fashionable at all. But both, mainstream Fashion and subcultures will always live of each other. And yeh, it all sucks and we are angry little punk kids, but in the end, sometimes I’m happy that I can easily order a shirt by my favourite band or buy it on the highstreet.that’s sadly not playing gigs anymore or hasn’t been to my country in years. And well, at some point it’s simply to tempting and something like this Greenday shirt from Topshop makes it’s way into my shopping bag.

  1. I remember also being deeply annoyed when Forever 21 would sell band shirts because I recall the amazing feeling of going to shows and purchasing the shirts there at the venues. Though I haven't worn jeans in a while, I love the combination of tshirt and mom jeans. You look lovely <3

    1. no shit. growing up in l.a. there was no way you could buy those shirts unless u went to the shows. it was a badge of honor. also if you wanted a studded leather jacket you made it, you took your happy ass to melrose and found the studs and put them on ur jacket yourself.. none of this im going to buy something like that in a retail environment... it did not exist. shit we could not wear our doc's around white supremacist or they would make us take our shoes off... those were simple pure and real times. now days we should just make our own clothes.. leran to silkscreen!

  2. Great look and I agree with everything you said!

  3. Oulala , such a very great look !
    And your hair <3

And thanks for stepping by !

  4. Confession time: I once wanted to buy a Guns & Roses tee from H&M not because I liked G&R but I genuinely thought it was a cool looking top...

  5. ... and should those band brands really appear in the toddler's section of your local H&M?

  7. Love the orange graffiti backdrop with this look! Is this in Manchester?! You're killing it as always! x

  8. I guess I agree. I just always think to myself, you can buy this shirt, but not the attitude and still I can go to my really small punk venues to see a fabulous show and buy a shirt for a few bucks afterwards that no ordinary highstreet shopper ever can never buy and no company ever can sell out, there will be an underground scene forever and dudes who are in it know this and primark-ramones-shirt-buyers wont ;)

  9. I like your writing, it was really interesting to read! Your style is amazing!

  10. This is absolutely amazing! I like this a lot. Have an amazing Friday. :)

  11. That's a good point about being able to buy shirts from bands who don't play anymore or haven't visited your city! Seems like there are pros and cons on both sides, but either way this is a great look!

  14. You look stunning! I absolutely love your unique style! You look amazing and I love your hair too! <3 xx

  15. love your top and fur coat! i am guilty of buying a metallica shirt from urban outfitters, even though i don't listen to them. i got rid of it after i realized i probably shouldn't be wearing band tees as a fashion statement.

  16. I agree with you. Band t-shirts should not be a 'trendy-meaningless' fashion accessory, but yes used by the ones who really appreciate it!

    Nice thoughts!
