Hollywood

12 August 2015

„You look like some nasty rich girl in these photos“ said my housemate. Well thank you, that was the point. I guess Gottfried Keller was right in his book „Kleider machen Leute“ which means something like „Clothes create people.“ It´s about this poor guy who dresses up in some super posh clothes. If before nobody gave a damn, he is now happily welcomed in every hotel, restaurant and store. And because he looks so rich, he gets stuff for free or on credit. Makes perfect sense right? Did you ever realize that if you go to an upmarket store wearing casual clothes they watch you suspiciously or even better ignore you? At the same time I made the experience that if I´m sporting my Louis Vuitton Never Full and a nice faux fur coat I immediately get four salespersons trying to serve me. This is something I will probably never fully understand. Look at the Gallery Lafayette in Paris for example: Whenever I go there I see masses of people in snap backs and trackie bottoms carrying about 5 big shopping bags from Marc Jacobs to Chanel. What a revelation! Rich people also wear casual clothes. On one hand I´m really annoyed by this but then on the other hand I love having the possibility to change peoples first impressions of me with something as simple as clothes. And this day I imagined myself to be the rich but rebellious Hollywood brat from some teenage movie. Apparently it worked out.

WHAT AM I WEARING?

Was eine Offenbarung! Reiche Leute tragen also auch lässige Klamotten.

  3. Love this post, Susan!! It's a sad, sad truth that people do judge a book by its cover... I'm guilty of that now and again but most of the time I try not to.

Back to the outfit, the spoilt brat look really suits you... haha! And I love how you can see your tattoo just below the bralette! It adds a really nice finishing touch to the look.

  5. I have experienced that over and over again: The clothes you wear when entering a store really change ow you are treated.

  6. Omg, nasty girl for SURE, but you are such a babe, Susan! I love love love the look! I think it's the whole sunglasses, neon lip and sassy sling bag that makes the whole thing so damn posh yet urban.

It confuses me, too, the fact that people are treated differently depending on what they wear, but gah, we'll never fully understand it. Just take it as it comes, I like to say!

  14. Haha! BRILLIANT! And very, very true!! One of our distant relatives went to a car showroom in casual clothes and nobody wanted to help him so he got his chauffeur to bring the Bentley round and drive off... The sales staff just watched him drive away in shock! Hahaaa!!

  15. Loving "the rich bitch" look!! So cute :) <3
It's amazing how much your looks can affect people... even just your pretty face ;)

I have this friend who wants people to treat her like she was a snob. She gets upset if she doesn't get service in high end makeup boutiques and that's why she's using all her (little) money to have designer bags and stuff... Just like in the book you mentioned. Sad.
